Widows

"Pure and undefiled religion before God and
the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows
in their trouble."  ~ James 1:27

Since it is a custom in India for women to never remarry after the death of their husbands, this leaves many women destitute.  Thus, there is a great need for the care of widows.  At present, we have six widows' homes in the Rampachodavaram/Tuni area.  These house approximately 550 Christian ladies.  However, approximately 800 widows are provided with montly support.  These ladies play a vital part in the work of the church.  Those who can read are trained to teach the gospel to other ladies (because it is against custom for a man to approach a woman).  This has proven to be a very effective tool.  Other widows help in the care of the orphans.  Those who sponsor widows give $10 monthly.  This buys their food.  We feel these widows are very deserving of our support.
